history

Matt Rodriguez

He started skateboarding at age 10, and moved to Sacramento at age 11, where he skated with local Jeff Toland and watched pros Ricky Windsor, Sam Cunningham, and Snaggle skate up close, learning the North California style of loose trucks and full speed. His first sponsors were Chapter 7, Spitfire wheels, and Thunder trucks. He was then sponsored by STEREO, and after the release of "A Visual Sound video" in 1994, he turned professional at age 17. After Stereo, he rode for Supernaut, and in 1998 he was an founding member of I path. He later launched his own deck brand Uprize and Frontline, and currently runs "Es La Boom". He plays percussion/drums and is also active as a musician in his own band Story Tellers, and in the band Blktop project with Tommy Guerrero and Ray Barbee. In 2024, at the age of 48, his new journey starts on [BEAUTIFUL PLANET] with a roots spirit as its axis. He continues to push forward to fulfill his role.
